Hospice care is only for 6 months
An individual must be certified with a terminal illness with a life expectancy of 6 months or less. However, an individual can be on hospice or receive hospice services for longer than 6 months as long as they continue to qualify for hospice.
Hospice is for those who have “given up”

Hospice is only for the “last days”
Often times people are scared of hospice even though they qualify for hospice. BurchCreek HomeCare & Hospice can provide better care and comfort to the patient and family the greater length of time we are in the home.
You must be a DNR or Do Not Resuscitate in order to be on hospice
You have the right to choose if you would like full measures or not. Your wishes will be respected.
Hospice provides 24 hour care, 7 days a week
Hospice providers are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but there must be a primary caregiver in the home. Hospice is not to take place of the caregiver but to assist them. A comprehensive care plan is created to meet the caregiver and patient needs. BurchCreek HomeCare & Hospice will also help locate resources to assist in any additional care required.
Hospice pays for everything
Medicare hospice benefit pays for medical services related to the hospice diagnosis. This includes medications for symptom management and comfort related to the hospice diagnosis only, medical equipment, and testing that may be required. BurchCreek Homecare and Hospice is happy to assist you understand what will be covered.
Hospice pays for room and board
Medicare hospice benefit only pays for room and board in a Medicare certified facility for short term stays required for respite for the caregiver, symptom management or crisis. These are short term and meant for relief so the patient can return home.
You cannot keep your physician while on hospice
BurchCreek HomeCare & Hospice has a medical director on staff that is a physician. This helps provide for quick response when a patient is in need. If the patient would like to continue to use their personal physician they are more than welcome to, as long as the physician is willing to continue care.
Once on hospice you cannot qualify for any other help
You hospice team will help you get in contact with other resources available to you to assist in caring for your loved one.
You cannot change hospice
You can change hospices at any time if you do not feel that your needs are being met.
